About the Authority

The home of The Official Southern Guides.

Southern Culture Authority is the home of The Official Southern Guides, created by writer, journalist and agency founder Don Davis.

It produces books about Southern rituals, destinations and unwritten rules. I love these people. That’s why I know what they do.

Nobody appointed me. Somebody had to keep score.

Culture

The Culture Collection

Longer, more literary field guides to celebrations, supper clubs, weddings, family baggage and the seasons nobody is discussing in public.

Destinations

The Destination Collection

Shorter guides to the beaches, mountains and Southern towns where a change of scenery rarely improves the behavior.

Beyond the page

Media, objects and partnerships

Essays, video, useful products and selective collaborations that belong naturally in the world of the books. Nothing gets made just to fill a shelf.

Beyond the books

The books come first. The rest has to belong.

Media

Short video, essays, interviews and cultural commentary.

Products

Things you’d put in a gift basket next to the book.

Licensing

The right publisher, retailer or destination will know it when they see it. So will I.
